Strong

The double Grammy-winning hip-hop legends who gave us the hits ‘Mr. Wendal’ and ‘Everyday People’ come back with their new offering ‘Strong’. Jam packed with classic beats, rhymes and melodies that they are famed for, this new platter is a sure fire return to form! Kicking straight in and going for the jugular, ‘Bloody’ sees a heavier shade and darker groove, an afrocentric, anti war anthem with rawk guitar and an aggressive beat that rams home their message plain and simple, check the mad fiddle sample too! The wonderfully crackly chromatic, chugging punky ‘Let Your Voice Be Heard’ nags at you till you fall under it’s hypnotic spell and although the lyrics get a wee bit preachy, the groove is definitely on. In fact it made me grab my guitar and work out what the hell was going on (errr if you’re interested, D to Db on the verse Dm for the chorus, and Db for the rise…cool!!) The team doesn’t letup on the next one either,’Trends’ a happy vibe indeed, classic AD stuff recalling their past song that really has a go at the vapid element of today’s hip hop. The beat goes on with this one, this is turning out to being a bone fide work of art! All topics get covered, none no more so than the planet ‘Greener’ a gorgeous slice of wonky soul complete with catchy chorus and summery guitar chords and some dope rapping that get the message over loud and clear. Some fly programming on the standout track ‘Too Much Woman For Ya’ featuring
a crazy organ, like a deranged Sly Stone loop swirling around in a fun-fair. This is quality
stuff AD’s personal vision is highly intoxicating and fully formed, glad to see them in such
fine fettle.
