We call our shows Celebrations of Life, death, and the struggles of our ancestors. We've been doing that since we started. Our first shows as Arrested Development were at the former Club Celeb's in the Ghetto's of Atlanta. Headliner & I, would call Monyea to do sound & lights, (Thanks for reppin' us strong!) We used a number of African Dancers, and drummers. Tammy would make our clothes as wild as she could possibly imagine. And we got on stage for their talent shows. The reaction of those black folk was like, "yo those kids are CRAZY"! We looked & sounded tribal, with a mix of HipHop! We had 30 people on stage some holding up signs of Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey, and our vibe was Pure energy! But the guys always loved the girls in their "skimpy" traditional garb! (smiles) Needless to say we won every week! Eshe would dance so hard she one time hit her head & cracked it on the hardwood! She was bleeding all over the audience, but kept on going! It felt ancestral, and important. It was dedication. Expression! Who knew we would ever get paid to do it. Who knew we would ever blow up, we just wanted a shot! I think about the days of slavery only three grandmothers ago. Where whites owned blacks. Blacks by law were not considered HUMAN. Women were raped at random with no recourse, not even from the "law" or "justice system". Liberty & Justice for all was only a concept. We celebrate life, as it is NOW! No excuses; things are SOOOO MUCH BETTER! I think an AD celebration is an experience you should have at least one time before you die. (Live Dates) |
